04 · Frequently asked

Questions Nigerian SMEs ask first.

Do I still file if I pay 0% company tax?

Yes — filing is separate from the rate, and non-filing carries penalties. Even small companies on 0% CIT must file CIT returns and keep records.

What actually changed in 2026?

New Tax Acts, the Nigeria Revenue Service (formerly FIRS), and revised rates, thresholds and exemptions across CIT, VAT, WHT and PAYE. We help you adjust your registers, calendar and supplier matrix.

I'm behind on filings — what do I do now?

We help you regularise quickly, limit exposure and bring filings current. Most SMEs we onboard start with a compliance regularisation project, then transition to a monthly retainer.

Do small businesses charge VAT?

It depends on the threshold. Small companies below the threshold may be relieved from charging VAT [confirm 2026] but must still register and keep records. The SME Tax Health Check tells you what applies to you.

When should I hire help?

Earlier than most owners think. Start with the highest-risk areas — usually PAYE, VAT and CAC — and add tax advisory or audit-readiness as complexity grows.

How is your service priced?

Fixed-fee for set-up and health checks; transparent monthly retainers for ongoing compliance management. We scope each engagement after a confidential 30-minute briefing.
